There’s been some chatter online about the review (specifically the use of the word “worthy” in conjunction with John Green), which I sort of understand to a point. But it’s pretty great that EW, one of the few mainstream mags that even covers YA, gave a little space to a book featuring a “multicultural” character like Shy (the main character in The Living). I wrote a more action-driven book hoping I could take my mixed-race, working-class characters to a wider audience, and I’m truly humbled to see my grill in the pages of EW. I couldn’t be more excited!
