So many of my favorite authors and educators will be in Minneapolis this week for NCTE and ALAN. Here’s where I will be:

Thursday, Nov 19

12 – 4pm — Diversity in Children’s Literature: One Year Later (My panel is from 2:05-3:20)

Minneapolis Convention Center 101H

Program Description: This session will continue and extend the conversation on how classroom teachers may incorporate diverse children’s literature into their teaching in meaningful and informative ways. Publishers, authors, librarians, and teachers will share their stories of how they publish, create, share, and teach diverse fiction and nonfiction.

Friday, Nov 20

1 – 2pm — (signing) Mackin Autographing (Booth #927)

4 – 5:15pm — What Happened Next? Stories of Life After Censorship by the Teachers and Authors Who Lived Them

Minneapolis Convention Center M100I

Program Description: Classroom teachers tell their stories of challenged classroom materials with the very authors whose books were questioned. Told from these two perspectives—the teachers’ and the authors themselves – this session promises to provide participants with not only these stories, but the opportunity to share their own personal narratives and concerns.

5:30 – 7pm — Penguin Nerdy Cocktail Party

Hyatt Regency, Regency Room, 2nd Floor

Saturday, Nov 21

8 – 9:15am — Learning the Art of Writing from the Writers: Authors’ Best Lessons to Help Students Find Their Voice Through Their Writing

Minneapolis Convention Center 208CD

Program Description: Hear a diverse group of authors share their best writing lessons for teachers to use with students. Attendees will rotate through six roundtables where they will participate in a writing activity led by each author which they can take back and incorporate into their own classroom teaching.
